Cathedral Rocks its Hockey Season Opener

Cathedral's Dominic Blad in Early Action
If you blinked in the beginning of the game you would have missed it. Cathedral's Dominic Blad* scored a goal within the first 30 seconds, which set the tone for the whole game. Blad and Cathedral were on fire. Artie Potter followed with a goal in the first period for a 2-0 Cathedral lead that held heading into the 3rd period. St. Johns Shrewsbury made it interesting by scoring a goal, but then Jack Williams scored an insurance goal with the final score ending up 3-2 for a Cathedral win. Potter added 2 assists and Williams 1 assist. Goalie, John Liquori, had 16 saves.

Cathedral played very aggressive defense and dominated play most of the game against a strong St. John's Shrewsbury team. Cathedral had a number of shots on goal, several just missing for a score.

We were very pleased to see a large and enthusiastic crowd at the game in support of Cathedral.

Holiday Kindness

This holiday season, the National Honor Society donated gifts to 15 families through our Adopt-A-Family Program. In conjunction with St. Michael's Outreach Ministry run by Sister Eileen Sullivan, each Cathedral member of NHS was matched up with a family member in need to whom they provided a gift. Every academic department at Cathedral as well as members of the support staff contributed. We loaded four cars full of gifts and took them to St. Michael's rectory where they were distributed to the families. Helping in the delivery were Mary Kate Sullivan, Molly Sullivan, Casey Rooney, Pat Gregory and Rich and Cheryl DelViscio.

Senior, Ryan Reynolds, Selected for High School All-America Team in Soccer.

Cathedral senior, Ryan Reynolds, was selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the High School All-America Team, which is the highest honor a high school soccer player can receive.  This award is presented annually to both male and female players. The All-America Teams are comprised of the top players from each region.
Each of the eight NSCAA regions are allocated a specific number of All-America players based on the high school NSCAA membership in each region.  To become an All-America, a player must first be selected to his or her respective All-Region team.
To be eligible for All-Region consideration, players first must be selected All-State in their respective state through a recognized coaches' selection program. Each state is awarded a specific number of slots on the All-America team based on the number of high school coaches there are in the state and how many of them are current NSCAA members.

Shining Ryan Reynolds

The Cathedral Boys Soccer Team lost a hard fought game to South Hadley, the final score was 2 - 1. Ryan Reynolds tied the score at 1 -1 with 8 minutes remaining in the first half. South Hadley went ahead to stay about 3 minutes into the 2nd half. Cathedral fought hard, and had plenty of close score opportunities, but it just wasn't our day. Nonetheless the team completed a great season and earned the respect of the entire league. All the Cathedral players fought hard in the game, but if you were to single out any ONE player...Senior Ryan Reynolds played his last game and fought his heart out.

Artie Potter - Jack of All Trades?

Or shall we say "Artie of all sports"? Senior Artie Potter has played baseball, lacrosse, and hockey for Cathedral. Just recently the boys soccer team was short players due to injury and the coach asked Artie to play in an important year end play-off game. Without hesitation, Artie said yes! His grandparents, Lynn and Bob Boron, tell us that Artie is the type of young man who would ALWAYS answer the call when needed for Cathedral, and the team. He is mild mannered outside of sports, but when on the field he is known for his excellent and aggressive style of play...in ALL sports. Actually he played several minutes in the final soccer game, and played quite well, even though he had not played soccer all year. He answered the call.

CHS 2nd Annual Wine & Beer Tasting Update

With great pleasure we announce that our 2nd Annual Wine & Beer Tasting on October 19, 2012 was a huge success!  Our Wine Committee and staff received outstanding reviews about the event, and we raised over $8,000.00 for tuition assistance for Cathedral Students.  With an excellent turnout of guests, plenty of wine, beer and liquor to taste, and delicious hors d’oeuvres, we cannot wait for the next one!

On behalf of Cathedral High School and all of our students, we want to extend a heart-felt thank you to everyone who helped make this event so successful.  We hope to see you again next year!
